Travel Diaries: Marrakech

I recently went on a graduation trip with around 20 friends and we visited many beautiful places. Amongst my favorites was Marrakech. This was an incredible trip because not only were we able to party, which we were keen to do after finishing our exams, but we were also immersed in a beautiful culture which I loved learning more about. This trip was eventful and memorable from the very first minute, from almost missing my flight, too unexpected surprises in the plane, and loosing one of our friends in the desert, we made memories we will always cherish and never forget.

During our trip we stayed at the Selman Hotel. While the service at the hotel was at times slow, we had an amazing experience staying there. The scenery of the hotel was stunning and what I really appreciated about it was that the architecture of the hotel was true to Moroccan culture, unlike some hotels which are more commercialized.

Parties

Our first night in Marrakech we drove all the way into the Agafay desert to attend the first night of Deep House Bible. This was DHB’s sunset party in the middle of the desert, which started at around five pm and ended at around 3 am.

Our second night in Marrakech we attended DHB’s sunrise party which started later at night (we went at around 1 am) and lasted all the way to the next morning. This was my favorite night and morning in Marrakech, dancing till sunrise with all my friends in the middle of a desert listening to Keinemusik perform. When we arrived in back in our hotel from the party breakfast was opening. We ate breakfast in our party clothes and then went to shower and sleep. Our hair and clothes were covered in sand, so we had to wash it off before we could sleep a bit.

We also decided to visit a nightclub called Babouchka on one of our nights there. The club was beautiful and I had an amazing time, even though we went on a Monday night so the club was not very busy. I would definitely recommend visiting this club if you are looking for somewhere to go out in Marrakech.

day activities

We did many amazing activities during the day, but my favorite by far was going on ATVs and quad bikes. We went late in the afternoon so we were able to see the sunset on the ATVs and also stopped for some Moroccan tea and snacks halfway through the ride.

Hot Air Balloon Ride

I also had an amazing time going on a hot air balloon with my friends. We had to wake up at 5 AM to be there in time to watch the sunrise. Because of the weather, we ended up having to go up in the balloon a bit later and missed the sunrise, but the experience was still amazing (although a bit scary)

YSL Museum

Another fun experience (especially for me since I love fashion) was visiting the YSL Museum, which was filled with original sketches and garments.

Visiting the Souks of Marrakech

A place everyone must visit when going to Marrakech are the souks. These marketplaces are famous around the world for being some of the most exotic marketplaces in the world. Here we saw everything from beautiful chandeliers and traditional Moroccan items, to cobras, to fake Hermes bags, to traditional teas and herbs. There is truly a wide variety of things to be seen in these markets and it is a place that helps to immerse yourself in the country’s culture.

Riding Camels

On our last day in Marrakech we went on a camel ride. Even though I did not like riding the camels because it was very scary, I think this is a must-do activity for people visiting the country. Most of my friends loved the ride.

Overall I had an incredible time in Marrakech and would love to go back there at some point. I would also like to visit other places in Morocco that I didn’t get to go to on this trip, such as Casablanca. I hope you guys enjoyed seeing my trip and that it was helpful in some way <3.

Xoxo,
